An Industrial Scale, Mechanical Process for Improving Pellet Quality and Biogas Production from Hazelnut and Olive Pruning

The effects of a mechanical process on the solid fuel quality and anaerobic biodegradability hazelnut olive pruning were determined. feedstock was treated using two-stage dry milling process, followed by fractionation into four different products. coarser products from processing both raw materials, named C M, notable for high reduction in ash nitrogen content. Therefore, hazelnut, they met requirement EN ISO 17225-2 standard industrial residential pellets, whereas M requirements only pellet. materials finest processing, F1 F2, anaerobically digested batch reactors under mesophilic conditions. F2 product reached methane yield 118.1 Nm3 tVS−1, corresponding to +70.1% gain over untreated substrate, 176.5 about +93.5% material. These results suggest that investigated could be successfully used improve establish new markets them.
